Body:

History

21st Century Democrats, formerly Democrats 2000, was founded by Senator Tom Harkin, commentator Jim Hightower, and Congressman Lane Evans to give financial aid to progressive and populist candidates. According to “Political Money Line,” it was the 13th largest PAC in the United States during the 2004 election cycle, raising nearly $7 Million.

Organizational Structure

Twenty-First Century Democrats is one of the few PACs in the nation that trains grassroots organizers to campaign for progressive candidates

Programs

Specific 21st Century Democrats programs include “Mob Vote” — a campaigning initiative in the swing states of Ohio, Minnesota and Oregon — a “Neighbor to Neighbor” project in Oregon, which sought to build permanent volunteer infrastructure by training members of a community to persuade and turn out their own neighbors, and a grass roots training program with Democracy for America and America Votes Alliance to supply and inform would-be political activists
